Drawing Us In: Queer Compassion & Community
Join co-editors and researchers Dr. Phillip Joy (Applied Human Nutrition, Mount Saint Vincent University) and Dr. Megan Aston (School of Nursing, Dalhousie University) for an engaging, heartfelt evening exploring Queer Compassion in 15 Comics — a new illustrated book that brings together queer stories of compassion. Part book launch, part community gathering, this event invites you into a vibrant conversation about what queer compassion looks like in everyday life. Through fifteen comic vignettes created by 2SLGBTQ+ artists and storytellers, the book explores the small acts of kindness, quiet moments of resistance, and deep connections that help us thrive. Come meet the editors, view selected comic panels, and take part in a conversation about queer health, healing, and hope. Whether you're into graphic storytelling, social justice, or just want to feel inspired — this event welcomes all. Free • All Ages • Dry Event (those under the influence will NOT be permitted to attend) • Light Snacks Provided Let’s gather in community to celebrate queer creativity and the radical power of compassion.

Kinky Colours 12 - An Adult Themed Black Light Party
Saturday July 19, 2025 9:00pm - Sunday July 20, 2025 1:00am ADT
We'll be taking over a ballroom on the 3rd floor of the Chocolate Lake Hotel Halifax for our 129th event to date! Grab your friends and come join us as we'll be having our 12th annual Kinky Colours event. This party will be a part of the 2025 Halifax Pride Festival and it is always one of the BIGGEST and CRAZIEST Nightshade events and this year it will be happening the same day as the Pride Parade so you're not going to want to miss this! So be sure to wear sexy neons or whites to react to the ultra violet lights! We've got waaay too many black lights and plan to flood every inch of the ballroom at the Chocolate Lake Hotel with glowing fun! When you're digging through the closet or out shopping for that perfect outfit but you're not sure what will glow and what won't, there are free Ultra Violet apps you can download for your mobile device! Now although there is no dress code, it is strongly suggested that you dress in theme or some type of alternative wear is suggested. If you don't know what to wear then black clothing is strongly suggested but again try to dress in something you would consider sexy and edgy. Dress sexy and cool, cause it does get hot and sweaty in there. Due to the nature of the venue, public decency rules do apply. Drink pricing for the bar is as follows: Domestic Beer, Well Shots $7.00 Premium Liquor. & Liqueurs $8.00 Imported Beers, Coolers $8.00 House Wine $8.00 Soft Drinks $4.00 Cash only bar. The hotel has an ATM in the lobby but we have emptied it at every Nightshade event so come prepared! Please drink responsibly. Each year our Pride parties have Sold Out weeks before each event so buy early or risk missing out! Tickets are available for only $25+tax and purchases can be made online through our website. Coat check service will be $3 for the night which includes in and out privileges for one hanger of clothes and/or one bag. There will be a self-coat check area but this will be not be monitored and is at use at your own risk. We will be adhering to all government regulations at our Nightshade events. In addition extra cleaning procedures will be put into place for both the venue and for our own equipment. Hand sanitizer stations will be readily available as well of course there is plenty soap and water in the washrooms. Valid government identification (19+) is required to gain entry. If you are sick please stay home! We have done away with our regular 'no refunds' policy and replaced it with a full credit of your ticket price. If you inform us that you will not be in attendance prior to us opening the doors at 9pm than we will issue you a full credit for one of our future events. Please check with the hotel for their cancellation policies. If for any reason we are forced to reduce capacity or cancel this event, causing you to not be able to attend then you will be issued a full credit of your ticket price for one of our future events. You may also purchase optional Cancellation Insurance for $1 per ticket which would see the full price of your ticket ($25 ticket or $28 ticket price w/coatcheck) refunded to you if you can not attend the event for any reason, so long as you contact us about the cancellation prior to the start of the event. The Nightshade dance floor will be a flood of bodies as our new DJ, Gyrrrl on Decks, is stepping up and taking over the Nightshade sound system! “In the beginning, at the end of nowhere in the South-West corner of NS, about 24 years ago, Gyrrrl on Decks fell in love with curating music and making the dance floor vibe. When the night shines like day, and the wide starry eyed come out from under the darkness and into the light to play, this multi-genre hot mess spins your requests to impress all the while feeling so #blessed." Nightshade will be actively on the search for local DJ talent to perform at our events. So please reach out with suggestions of amazing Halifax DJs you would love to see on stage at our kinky costume parties! We will have a body painting station setup where guests can paint each other or make use of our talented body paint artist Kai, who will be available to pain you for a negotiated donation. There will be some hardcore equipment brought in for those who know how to use it. For everyone's safety it will be well lit and monitored throughout the night by our DMs. This is a no camera event with the exception of event photographers, please message to apply to shoot for the event. Hotel rooms for the Nightshade Kinky Colours, event are at a special rate of $229 but only until the cut of date Thursday June 19th, 2025. To reserve a room in our block you must call and say you are with the group rate Pride. There is a chance to still book in our block after this date as well so make the call and see if they can squeeze your late ass into our group of rooms! Booking with our Block is ideal as your room will be surround by other people attending the party. It will thus be easier to connect with others and you will receive fewer noise complaints than if you were to book a room elsewhere in the hotel. Nightshade does not profit from room rental, so if you can find a better deal do what is best for you. Note that complaints against you, noise or otherwise, may lead to you being banned from future events as Nightshade wants to keep in good standing with the hotel. Hotel reservations can be made by calling central reservations (800) 528-1234 or the hotel directly (902) 477-5611 ext For more details about booking hotel rooms for this event visit this link: https://nightshadehalifax.com/HotelRoomRentals.html Nightshade makes no commissions and profits in no way from room rentals. Halifax Naked Peace Protest Ride & March
Sunday July 20, 2025 12:00pm - 2:00pm ADT
A fun free-spirited tradition that has been held locally for over a decade (and globally for even longer!), where attendees are welcome to strip down and shed their shame as they take to the city streets in celebration of our natural world and the beauty of all bodies! You can Ride or March, whether with your bike, wheelchair, scooter, or your own two feet; whatever gets your body moving! Come join in or show your support by cheering us on! In a time when so many bodies are policed or made the subject of political rhetoric and autonomy taken away, one of the many positive messages we want to promote is that nudity should not be viewed as inherently sexual, but rather should be accepted as a beautiful part of life and a symbol of freedom.

Masc: The Dump - Mens’ Bathhouse Party
Sunday July 20, 2025 4:00pm - 8:00pm ADT
For the 3rd year in a row, The Dump will be happening the afternoon after Parade Day while many visitors are still in town. We predict that this event will be sold out as we will only have 80 tickets available. Get your lockers and private rooms rented early as we will run out and no spaces will be held without advance payment! We recognize that in the past this venue was traditionally for gay men only and this night is a focus on returning some of that space that was taken from that community. While not just for cis-men this night will be focused on those looking for a more traditional bathhouse experience. Night Spa is Halifax’s only queer bathhouse. It is private, members only so only Night Spa members and their guests may attend. While everyone is welcome to apply, we are queer focused. We are queer owned and operated, as our staff are all queer/trans with a couple of allies too. We host Masc events each week but none as busy as The Dump. Members and their guests may come rent a locker or pay a little more and party in a private room. Soak in the hot tub or sweat it out in the sauna. The Dark Room in the basement is for those looking to get a little more wild. Not a Night Spa member yet? Please take a moment and apply to be a member. Walk ins are not allowed, and we do not accept same day applications so apply now so you can attend later. There is no cost to apply or upfront fee to being a member so apply today.

Rebels in Rhinestones: A Drag, Burlesque & Queer History Mini Lecture Series
Monday July 21, 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm ADT

Rebels in Rhinestones is a mini lecture series exploring the rich, rebellious history of drag, burlesque, and queer performance. Four local performers will each present a 20-minute talk on topics such as the origins of burlesque, the legacy of drag kings, and the contributions of BIPOC performers. Through storytelling and history, this series highlights how these art forms have long been sites of resistance, celebration, and self-expression. Whether you're a performer or an audience member, Rebels in Rhinestones offers a deeper understanding of the political, social, and cultural forces that have shaped queer performance. Join us as we connect the past to the present, fostering empathy, knowledge, and appreciation for the performers who paved the way. ASL Interpreters will be present. Livestream option present as well. This event is PWYC/ Sliding Scale.

Gender Blender Mixer & Ice Breakers Night at the Bathhouse
Monday July 21, 2025 6:00pm - 10:00pm ADT
This party has a long title and is gonna be a great night! This party has a long title and it's gonna be a great night! This evening is aimed at first time visitors to Night Spa and those who may be trying to make new friends or connections. You must be a Night Spa member or the guest of a member in order to attend. Folks may choose to do some heavier play but this evening will be filled with fun, get to know you, games, name tags and community focused fun! We've had a couple of these nights before and the ice breaker games really do work. All the games are optional, you can sit and observe if you wish or break off at any time and do your own thing. Night Spa is Halifax’s mixed gender, private members only venue so we may do anything we wish except smoke inside. There is a small side door for those who wish to smoke or vape. This is a clothing optional event, so nudity is acceptable but not required. This is a queer adult space for adults to do adult things. Members should only bring guests who can behave as an adult in this type of environment. Upon arrival all first-time visitors are given a tour which not only goes over where things are and how the equipment works but also goes over the rules and etiquette of the space. This is the same tour that we offer during our open-house event but if you would like a refresher tour, we are happy to provide one. There is truly something comforting and freeing about entering a space full of openness, acceptance and surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals. While everyone may be attending Night Spa for different reasons, being in a space where consent is so openly practiced, requested and respected will put you strongly at ease and confident with your interactions with others. If you've never been to the spa before there is a hot tub, sauna, showers and plenty of public/shared side rooms for socializing in as well as 15 private rooms that can be pre-booked. You may bring your own food and drinks but we must take care of the space and remove our empty cans and bottles when we are finished. For legal purposes, you must be a Night Spa member or a guest to attend this event. We do not accept same day applications so apply early. There is no fee to apply or to become a Night Spa member. You pay an entrance fee by either renting a locker or upgrading your locker to a private room each time you attend. Please take a moment to fill out an application. More details about the venue and our events are provided to our members.

It's a great learning opportunity for all of our players and officials, but with all the hard-hitting action of a full-length roller derby bout. In celebration of the Halifax Pride festival, we'll be donning our rainbows and showing off our queer joy (while consensually hitting each other!) Naked Rock Band game night
Tuesday July 22, 2025 8:00pm - Wednesday July 23, 2025 12:00am ADT
A special Pride Edition of our weekly night of retro games and nudity! Drums, guitars and vocals, come play the classic video game, Rock Band or soak in the hot tub or play some downstairs. Tuesdays are our weekly cheap night where each member only pays $15 for a locker rental during this 4-hour party! These nights are more relaxed than our weekend parties but still plenty of fun! Night Spa is Halifax's only mixed gender, private members, clothing optional Spa. There's a hot tub, sauna, showers, and many shared spaces. Space will be limited for these nights. Members and their guests can rent a locker for this evening, but we will not be renting out rooms. So come play some games and have a nice relaxing time socializing with other members of the community. We are a queer venue run by 26 queer/trans staff and volunteers plus 2 allies who identify as straight. For 20 years the space we occupy had been focused on cis-men only interactions, but Night Spa opened 3 years ago and now welcomes everyone 19+ to apply. We offer some reoccurring special events that focus more on specific connections as well, such as our Femmes & Themmes, Masc (short for masculine), TNG (the next generation for 19–35 year-olds), Nights’ Paw (pet play) and Swingers (for couples). As a venue we are also open to private rentals or on working with community members to develop themed nights that focus more on other interests too. Come join us this Tuesday night for a very special Naked Rock Band game night during Pride. We expected to be extra busy so be prepared to meet a lot of first time members as well as our regulars and a few members who only appear during these special occasions. 4 hours of Night Spa fun for $15 cannot be beat so apply for membership today if you’re not already a member. There is no fee to apply or to become a Night Spa member. You pay an entrance fee by either renting a locker or upgrading your locker to a private room each time you attend. For legal purposes, you must be a Night Spa member or a guest to attend this event. We do not accept same day applications so apply early. OPEN BOOK: A 2SLGBTQIA+ Human Library
Wednesday July 23, 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm ADT
OPEN BOOK: A 2SLGBTQIA+ Human Library is a powerful storytelling event that brings together 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomer and refugee community members from around the world to share their lived experiences in a safe, affirming, and inclusive environment. Hosted by the Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia (RRANS) in partnership with Queer Arabs Halifax, the YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs, and Halifax Public Libraries, the event transforms people into “human books” who engage in one-on-one or small group conversations with attendees. These “books” include refugees, newcomers, and long-time residents, each offering personal narratives that explore themes of identity, migration, resilience, and belonging. Held annually for the last couple of years at the Halifax Central Library, OPEN BOOK creates opportunities for empathy, connection, and learning between participants and the broader public. The event challenges stigma and stereotypes while fostering meaningful dialogue and community understanding. The Human Library continues to be an accessible, impactful, and community-driven initiative that uplifts the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers and refugees and builds bridges across cultures and lived experiences.

Pride Femmes & Themmes
Friday July 25, 2025 7:00pm - 10:00pm ADT
A special night for our Cis-Female, Non-Binary, and Trans folk. Night Spa only hosts these events 4 times a year and they create such a unique space for people to learn, explore and expand their boundaries in an all-accepting environment. There is truly something freeing about surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals. These events are a mix of socializing, relaxing and play. The people who attend create such an amazing chance for you to truly be yourself, to grow and to make new connections. If you have not been to a Femmes & Themmes event before you are not going to want to miss this opportunity as our Pride edition is one of the busiest of the year. This party runs for 3 hours and is immediately followed by our Pink Pony Pride Party! Night Spa is Halifax’s only queer bathhouse. It is private, members only so only Night Spa members and their guests may attend. While everyone is welcome to apply to become a member, we are queer focused. We are queer owned and operated, as our staff are all queer/trans with a couple of allies too. There is no fee to apply or become a Night Spa member. You do pay an entry fee by either renting a locker or upgrading to a private room when you attend. We do not accept same da applications or walk-ins at the door so apply now to attend a future event. Be certain to check-off that you are interested in our Femmes & Themmes parties when applying.

Mixed Gender Bathhouse Party
Friday July 25, 2025 8:00pm - Saturday July 26, 2025 3:00am ADT
Night Spa is a queer space and Halifax’s only mixed gender, clothing optional venue. For over 20 years this location has been a bathhouse that has primarily been focused on cis-male interactions. Night Spa moved in 3 years ago and opened the space up to members of all gender. This very special Pride event will celebrate the changes at this venue and welcomes all who are 19+ to apply to become Night Spa members. This event is very social with folks hanging out in our lounge area, soaking in the hot tub and making friends while sweating it out in the sauna. Attending a clothing optional venue like this can seem very daunting at first but there is something so comforting with surrounding yourself with like-minded people. Being comfortable is key so go at your own pace and bring some options for outfits as you can store things in your rented locker or private room. Our Pride events are great at subverting sexpectations. All first timers recieve a tour when they first arrive that not only goes over where everything is and how the equipment works but also goes over our rules and etiquette. Many people attend Night Spa for different reasons and it’s important to communicate and inquire what others are looking for. Consent is key with all of our interactions in the space and you will be comforted with how adult everyone behaves in an adult space like this with adult activities happening. More information about this event and the venue are available once you become a member. We currently have over 5000 Night Spa members and for legal purposes everyone must be a member or the guest of a member in order to attend. We do not accept walk-ins or accept same day applications so apply today in order to attend events in the future. This is the only Saturday night that Night Spa is open during the 2025 Halifax Pride Festival and Pride is always one of our busiest times of year. Events often sell out so be sure to apply for membership early so you can book and reserve your space. Our staff and volunteers are always around to answer any questions you may have prior to your visit or during one of our parties. Come join Night Spa during Pride this year. You are really not going to want to miss this!

So Fetch! Dog Walk
Saturday July 26, 2025 11:00am - 12:00pm ADT
Calling all puppers and hoomans! Let's go for a dog walk around Shubie Park. We’ll meet on the grassy area next to the parking lot at the end of Locks Road. Pooches and hoomans are encouraged to wear plenty of rainbow attire so look for the rainbows when you arrive. We’ll begin the walk shortly after 11:00 am, doing a loop around the park that sticks mostly to off-leash areas, with a quick midpoint break at Sunrise Beach for a group photo. Following the walk, stick around for ice cream sandwiches, freezies, and treats for all.

But wait! There’s more! After our walk, any pups who want to be included in the Best Dressed contest (voting will happen online) will need their portraits taken! The cost for a portrait is just $35, with 100% being donated to the SPCA. You'll receive a digital copy of your portrait and be entered in the contest for a chance to win your own mini photo session with Wet Nose Images!

Masc-i-nee
Sunday July 27, 2025 4:00pm - 8:00pm ADT
As the 2025 Halifax Pride Festival comes to a close, we invite the cis-men, as well as the trans and non-binary folk, out for an afternoon of play and relaxation. Queer, gay and straight individuals, couples, and polycules are all welcome to apply for this event as Night Spa wraps up its festival events with one last afternoon of delight. We host Masc events each week and usually have 15-25 people out but it's the Pride Festival so expect it to be busier! Members and their guests may come rent a locker or pay a little more and party in a private room. Soak in the hot tub or sweat it out in the sauna. The Dark Room in the basement is for those looking to get a little more wild. You must be a member to attend. Not a Night Spa member yet? Please take a moment and apply to be a member. Walk ins are not allowed, and we do not accept same day applications so apply now so you can attend later. There is no cost to apply or upfront fee to being a member so apply today. You will receive a lot more details from the members side of our website.
