Drawing Us In: Queer Compassion & Community
Join co-editors and researchers Dr. Phillip Joy (Applied Human Nutrition, Mount Saint Vincent University) and Dr. Megan Aston (School of Nursing, Dalhousie University) for an engaging, heartfelt evening exploring Queer Compassion in 15 Comics — a new illustrated book that brings together queer stories of compassion. Part book launch, part community gathering, this event invites you into a vibrant conversation about what queer compassion looks like in everyday life. Through fifteen comic vignettes created by 2SLGBTQ+ artists and storytellers, the book explores the small acts of kindness, quiet moments of resistance, and deep connections that help us thrive. Come meet the editors, view selected comic panels, and take part in a conversation about queer health, healing, and hope. Whether you're into graphic storytelling, social justice, or just want to feel inspired — this event welcomes all. Free • All Ages • Dry Event (those under the influence will NOT be permitted to attend) • Light Snacks Provided Let’s gather in community to celebrate queer creativity and the radical power of compassion.

Halifax Naked Peace Protest Ride & March
Sunday July 20, 2025 12:00pm - 2:00pm ADT
A fun free-spirited tradition that has been held locally for over a decade (and globally for even longer!), where attendees are welcome to strip down and shed their shame as they take to the city streets in celebration of our natural world and the beauty of all bodies! You can Ride or March, whether with your bike, wheelchair, scooter, or your own two feet; whatever gets your body moving! Come join in or show your support by cheering us on! In a time when so many bodies are policed or made the subject of political rhetoric and autonomy taken away, one of the many positive messages we want to promote is that nudity should not be viewed as inherently sexual, but rather should be accepted as a beautiful part of life and a symbol of freedom.

Rebels in Rhinestones: A Drag, Burlesque & Queer History Mini Lecture Series
Monday July 21, 2025 6:00pm - 8:00pm ADT

Rebels in Rhinestones is a mini lecture series exploring the rich, rebellious history of drag, burlesque, and queer performance. Four local performers will each present a 20-minute talk on topics such as the origins of burlesque, the legacy of drag kings, and the contributions of BIPOC performers. Through storytelling and history, this series highlights how these art forms have long been sites of resistance, celebration, and self-expression. Whether you're a performer or an audience member, Rebels in Rhinestones offers a deeper understanding of the political, social, and cultural forces that have shaped queer performance. Join us as we connect the past to the present, fostering empathy, knowledge, and appreciation for the performers who paved the way. ASL Interpreters will be present. Livestream option present as well. This event is PWYC/ Sliding Scale.
